Betis has taken over Rome! Watch the hell of Spanish fans in the Europa League
We already know the conquest of Rome from history, but Betis fans have given it a modern twist. Over six thousand of them arrived in the Italian capital, first taking over the streets and bars, then reigning supreme at the Stadio Olimpico.
We already know the conquest of Rome from history, but Betis fans have given it a modern twist. Over six thousand of them arrived in the Italian capital, first taking over the streets and bars, then reigning supreme at the Stadio Olimpico.
Betis traditionally have some of the best fans in Spain. The atmosphere at the Estadio Benito Villamarín is such that it has made more than one knee buckle.
Los Béticos, however, regularly travel out in large numbers, and they made one such trip to Rome in the Europa League. Their beloved Betis took on AS in the battle for top spot and the fans literally pushed Manuel Pellegrini’s team to victory.
First, the night before the game, they took over a nightclub in Rome and made it their own show.
They then took over the streets, one of the epicenters of the Verdiblancos fans was La Piazza del Popolo.
After that, the fans had already arrived at the Stadio Olimpico. Apart from the amazing AS Roma home anthem, only Betis fans could be heard afterwards.
Yet the match did not start well for Betis. In the 34th minute, Paulo Dybala opened the scoring for the home side from a penalty. But Guido Rodríguez equalised six minutes later to make it 1-1. The second half was even for a long time, but Luiz Henrique scored the winner in the 88th minute with a header.
After that, only the Betis fans took over the stadium and started a real fanaticism.
