Viktoria Plzeň has played its second game in the Champions League. After the initial drubbing at Barcelona, they lost 0:2 at home to Inter, but put in a rather timid and fearful performance. How did captain Lukáš Hejda evaluate the match?
Michal Bílek took on Inter with his medicine. That is, with the three-goal system that the Milanese side is famous for. However, Viktoria is not so experienced and the first 20 minutes were only in the Italian team’s control.
Everything culminated in the 20th minute with a goal by Edin Džeko, who scored his tenth goal in nine games for Plzeň.
“We are not completely used to this system, but the opponent was playing it too, so we thought we would try it and play one-on-one. It didn’t work, so we had to rearrange it and then it was better,” said captain Lukáš Hejda.
“At the beginning we were pulling the short end of the stick, the first twenty minutes didn’t work out at all and we practically didn’t get into the game. When we regrouped, it was a bit better, Inter pulled back a bit and waited for their chances. After the red card it was probably already decided,” added the Pilsen stopper.
The only shot on target came in the second half when Viktoria were down to ten men. A centred ball from deep inside the box was headed behind by Bassey and Onana pushed the ball out for a corner.
Ironically, Pilsen may have played a little better with ten men, but the sending off was punished by Denzel Dumfries, who increased the score to 2:0 after Dzek’s assist.
“He only needs one goal situation to convert it. Today he showed again that he is an extremely good player. He has an excellent choice of space, found space in the whitewash and hit it perfectly to the bar. He proved his extravagance,” said coach Michal Bílek praising the Bosnian sniper.
