Everton have rewarded one of their fans for putting in a lot of effort and work to help Ukrainian refugees. The reward consisted of coach Frank Lampard sending him onto the pitch for the last few seconds during a preliminary match against Kiev.
For Paul Stratton, it was a dream come true, made even better by the fact that he managed to score a goal. The whole of Goodison Park gave him a huge round of applause.
The game was coming to a close at 3-0 when the referee blew his whistle. He didn’t stop the game, but called a penalty, even though there was no foul. The penalty should have been awarded to Paul Stratton.
He put on his jersey, high-fived Frank Lampard and ran onto the pitch. He stood up for the penalty and converted it. The goalkeeper made no effort to intervene, yet the Everton fan enjoyed the experience as best he could.
Forty-four-year-old Paul Stratton is a long-time Everton fan. He used to be a police officer. During the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he travelled to the Polish border to help refugees.
