Best of 2021 by Oktagon
We’re nearly halfway through 2022, and we’ve seen exciting tournaments packed with the best fighters on the domestic and European scene within the Oktagon organization. Still, the organization looked back on the past year and posted a poll on its Instagram with the best moments of 2021.
Best fighter of the year David Kozma picked up the award for best performance in the best fight of the year
David Kozma took the most categories for himself. His amazing performance in his welterweight defense against Brazilian Apollo was the performance of the year. At the same time, the aforementioned clash rightfully won the award for the best fight of the year, as the audience was treated to a 25-minute bloodbath that lifted fans out of their seats.
David Kozma, who managed two title defenses during the past year, has become the undisputed king of the Octagon. First, he dealt with Apollo in the aforementioned war in May, then survived his own death in another battle with Bojan Velickovic and, after a dance following a high kick from the Serb, snatched victory for his side.
Tereza Bledá the best fighter of the year, Lucia Szabová submission and KO of the year
In the opposite sex division, Tereza Bledá was the Fighter of the Year, becoming the organization’s first ever female champion. She managed an incredible 4 wins last year and has rightfully earned her chance in the UFC, where she will fight for a contract in September 2022.
Future mom Lucia Szabová also had a great year, dominating two categories. Her armbar Rizlen Zouak was honored by the organization as Submission of the Year. And Lucia also won KO of the year when she finished Christina Netz with a high kick in the first round.
Losene Keita as a discovery and Jonas Magard as the best foreign fighter of the year
The Belgian phantom Losene Keita was the discovery of the year. He flew into the organization like a hurricane, and last December he had a taste of Karol Rysavy, whom he knocked out in less than three minutes in the cage. We’ll see the current interim lightweight title holder in early June in a title fight with Ivan Buchinger.
The award for the organization’s best foreign fighter went to Danish fighter Jonas Magard. During the last year he managed to defeat Veliev on a submission in October and two months later he picked up the organization’s bantamweight belt after a unanimous decision over Filip Mack.
Miloš Petrášek won the entry of the year and the moment of the year was Ondřej Novotný’s speech at Štvanica
Miloš Petrášek’s return to the cage at Štvanica in Prague dominated the category of the year. After three consecutive losses, he took a year and a half break from all the action connected with fighting in the organization and it was more than a successful return.
The amazing moment when he entered the cage during the Rocky 4 movie and was driven forward by the sold-out Štvanice, is etched in the memory of not only the fighter’s fans. He then tightened the grip on his opponent Neferanovic after three minutes with an arm bar.
The category of the moment of the year was again awarded to Prague’s Štvanice and especially to the emotional speech of Oktagon promoter Ondrej Novotný, which gave goosebumps to many mixed martial arts fans.
