The biggest Czechoslovak MMA organization is fulfilling its dream and on Monday it will release the first episode of the reality show OKTAGON Challenge, which takes place on German soil with German fighters. What to look forward to?
The OKTAGON organisation has been thinking about moving abroad for some time, but at the beginning of the year it finally announced that it intends to target the German market. The reality show that started the popularity of MMA on Czechoslovakian territory, OKTAGON Challenge, will help to do this.
In Germany, it will be broadcast by the biggest local stations BILD.tv and BILD+, while fans in the Czech Republic and Slovakia will find all episodes on the OKTAGON.tv platform, where the tournaments are broadcast. The first episode will be available on Monday.
The German Challenge project will culminate on 4 June at OKTAGON 33, hosted by the iconic Festhalle in Frankfurt with a capacity of around 10,000 seats. The tournament will be the venue for the Challenge’s final match. The gala evening will also feature a duel between Stephan Pütz and Martin Zawada.
The filming was not without complications, but there is satisfaction with the result
The OKTAGON Challenge reality show will feature eight fighters who will compete together in the weight class up to 77 kilograms. The eight include Antonio Bila, Selim Topuz, Ali Nasir, Ibrahim Cholo, Simeon Kapuya, Hassan Shaaban, Endrit Brajshori and Jaime Cordero.
The two four-man teams are led by the biggest stars of German MMA, Stephan Pütz and Christian Eckerlin on one side, and brothers Martin and David Zawad on the other.
Pavol Neruda, one of the promoters of OKTAGON, said that this is a big step. However, he is aware that there is still a lot of work to be done in order for the potential to be fulfilled and for the organisation to be recognised.
Besides, he admitted that everything has not gone perfectly: ‘ For the first time we are not working with our staff or our fighters. In that time, we have become accustomed to a certain standard and we find that our processing demands are quite high. We’ve had to resort to changing directors in the course of shooting each episode, for example.”
This meant that people from the team OKTAGON normally works with had to supervise the filming. Thanks to this, they were able to achieve the desired quality. In addition, the organisation had to rent a warehouse hall, which had to be converted into an MMA gym where the fights take place.
“We have completely unknown fighters who don’t go far for a sharper word. They’re extroverts, they can sell themselves brilliantly and I have to say that all the episodes are extremely entertaining and addictive. Thechallenges we have prepared for the fighters have the potential to go viral and fly through the internet,” Neruda added.
