Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich lost his passion – Chelsea football – because of the war in Ukraine. But he doesn’t want to be without football and is trying to get back into it, now he wants to work in Spain, where he has sent a buyout offer to Valencia.
Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea, but will not see a pound of the transfer as he is sanctioned by the English government. He has also been sanctioned by the European Union along with several other Russian oligarchs.
But he’s certainly not planning to retreat into the background. Indeed, Abramovich is believed to be interested in buying Valencia, the iconic Spanish big club that has been mired in crisis for years.
Six-time Spanish champion, eight-time Copa del Rey winner, UEFA Cup (Europa League) winner, two-time Champions League finalist. Valencia is undoubtedly one of Spain’s giants, but the completely insane actions of its owners have slowly brought it to ruin.
The least liked man in all of Valencia, the club’s owner Peter Lim, is trying to sell the club. Spanish businessman Miguel Zorio is interested in the iconic brand and has mentioned another surprise bidder.
“Peter Lim tried to sell the club in London for €250m and failed,” said Zorio. “He later revealed to the media that he had two offers to sell, from me and a Russian oligarch from Chelsea, ” added the man who made the €248m bid.
“I am telling him that either he will present €50 million every year to compensate for the loss or he will sell the club to us. Whether he likes it or not,” Zorio recalled Valencia’s poor financial situation.
However, Abramovich must wait until the sale to Chelsea is formally completed. Meanwhile, the transfer of ownership to the Ricketts family is dragging on, blocked by fan protests.
