Kozma doesn’t understand Velickovic’s win. Hopefully Kertesz won’t break it, hopes the champion
It was supposed to be the highlight of the OKTAGON Prime 5 tournament, which it was. However, the result of the match surprised both the players and the champion David Kozma. What does he have to say about Bojan Velickovic’s win over Mate Kertesz?
It was supposed to be the highlight of the OKTAGON Prime 5 tournament, which it was. However, the result of the match surprised both the players and the champion David Kozma. What does he have to say about Bojan Velickovic’s win over Mate Kertesz?
The main match of the last Oktagon tournament offered a great spectacle. Bojan Velickovic and Mate Kertesz gave their best in their fight, however, after the end of the third round most people were convinced that the Hungarian fighter would win, but the scoring judges saw the fight differently.
The close and controversial victory of the Serbian fighter sparked great discussions. Velickovic himself admitted right in the cage that even he was surprised by the win. Kertesz was disappointed, saying at the press conference that situations like this do not do the sport or the organisation any good.
Champion David Kozma, who has fought both fighters in the past, also reacted to the result of the fight. He has beaten Kertesz twice, Velickovic once. It can be assumed that the Serbian will get a rematch thanks to his win over the Hungarian.
“Mate gave a really great performance, I absolutely don’t understand the scoring judges giving this fight to Bojan. It’s probably true that you can see it differently from the TV, but Mate clearly won the second and third rounds. Thefirst round was evenly matched, but the second and third rounds clearly went to Mate and I feel really sorry for him,” Kozma said on social media.
“I’m really sorry for this fight and for Mate. He gave 100% in his preparation, he wanted to win the fight, he created the fight and this is how it ended. Nothing can be done, he needs to pick himself up, put it behind him and move on. I wish him good luck, just don’t let it break him,” he added.
Now, however, Kozma’s main focus is on his fight as he faces his sixth title defence on April 9. His opponent will be Petr Knize.
