Wake up, Stachowski was angry with Conte. The former tennis player was irritated by the advocacy of Russian athletes

It’s not fair that Russian athletes have to pay such a price! Italian coach Antonio Conte, currently the coach of Tottenham Hotspur, has expressed his opinion in this sense. His words, however, greatly angered former tennis player Sergei Stakhovsky. The Ukrainian, who joined the armed forces to defend his homeland, took a swipe at the Italian.

“The war between Russia and Ukraine is very sad and affects the football and sports world. But it is also sad that Russian athletes are excluded from competitions,” Conte said of the decision by sports organisations to exclude Russians and Belarusians from their competitions.

“I think it’s not fair. I know very well the work they do every day for the sake of sport. I don’t think it’s right that they have to pay for this situation like this,” he added.

Those words, however, irked Stachowski immensely. The tennis player, who retired at the beginning of the year, took to his Instagram for the Italian. In the story he posted, he didn’t pick a fight with Conte.

“I’m not sure you understand the situation in Ukraine. Otherwise I can’t imagine you would have made such a comment. It soundslike you are sad for Russian athletes and businessmen,” Stakhovsky said.

“Millions of Ukrainians had to leave their homes because of the Russian invasion. Millions have had to leave the hell in their own cities while Russian planes and artillery bombard them. Please wake up,” he urged. “The Russians will have to bear the collective guilt for the destruction and killing they are doing in Ukraine,” he added forcefully.

Because of the war in Ukraine, many sports organizations have excluded Russian and Belarusian athletes from their competitions. The football federations FIFA and UEFA and the tennis federation ITF have done the same.

The latter excluded both teams from their team competitions. On the other hand, it continued to allow athletes from these countries to play, albeit not under its flag.
