Will Oscar Dorley’s goal be the most beautiful goal of the week in the EKL? Against Fenerbahce, he scored a stunning goal
The match against Slavia in Istanbul must have entertained the spectator’s eye, and the result was also favourable from the Czech fan’s point of view. The match between the Turkish giant and the Susians offered 5 goals. The winner of the match was Slavia, led by Oscar Dorley, who will compete for the best goal of the week in the EKL.
The match against Slavia in Istanbul must have entertained the spectator’s eye, and the result was also favourable from the Czech fan’s point of view. The match between the Turkish giant and the Susians offered 5 goals. The winner of the match was Slavia, led by Oscar Dorley, who will fight for the best goal of the week of the EKL.
Oscar Dorley was reviled after the last game of the fall season. He got an unnecessary red card against Baník Ostrava and the Sešiovans almost lost the game because of this mistake. In the end, even with the help of luck, Slavia drew 3:3.
From then on Oscar could not appear in the starting line-up, but in Turkey Susians had no other options and the Liberian footballer started from the first minute. Of course, was he under pressure or afraid to play?
Not at all. Dorley gave an excellent performance crowned by a great goal, which was appreciated by UEFA itself. You can see arguably the most beautiful goal of the week for yourself in the post below.
UEFA nominated this exhibition goal as one of the four best goals of the opening knockout round of the ECL and fans can now decide if it was indeed the best in a competition of three other entries.
Dorley’s goal was celebrated by both Slavia fans and, apparently, football enthusiasts in his native Liberia. The latter, like the Slavs, were happy to comment on Twitter on this beautiful strike and encouraged to vote for their favourite.
In a post-match interview, assistant coach Jaroslav Köstl, who was filling in for ailing head strategist Jindřich Trpišovský, said Oscar had been forgiven for his Ostrava shunt. According to him, Oscar should now benefit from increased competition in the form of David Jurásek.
UEFA takes note of Slavia’s performance
The match between Fenerbahce and Slavia was of course watched by UEFA. Three tweets (including Oscar’s goal) were directed at this match on its Twitter account.
It also tweeted during the match, asking mainly Turkish fans towards the end if they thought they could still level the match with Slavia.
Fortunately for the fans of Slavia and Czech football, this did not happen and the Prague team took home a valuable 3:2 victory from Istanbul!
