Chelsea will hit the knockout stage of the Club World Cup straight into the semi-finals, taking on Al-Hilal at Abu Dhabi Stadium in midweek on Wednesday 9 February from 17:30. It is the winner of the Europe-Asia duel who will face the winner of the other semi-final. This will be an African-South American showdown.
London Chelsea will be fighting for the Club World Cup title this year. So far, European clubs have overwhelmingly dominated the competition. Real Madrid have lifted the trophy four times, in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018. Moreover, it is ahead of its rival, as Barcelona has one less title from this competition (2009, 2011, 2015).
Among the clubs that have triumphed more than once, Bayern Munich is still there (2013, 2021). Here, however, we can already find a trace of another continent, thanks to the Brazilian team Corinthians (2000, 2012).
Finally, in quick succession, the list of champions with one title follows:: São Paulo – BRA (2005), AC Milan (2007), Internacional – BRA (2006), Manchester United (2008), São Paulo – BRA (2005), Inter Milan (2010), Liverpool (2019).
Chelsea is already preparing and has announced the following line-up:
Goalkeepers: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Édouard Mendy
Defenders: Antonio Rüdiger, Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, César Azpilicueta, Malang Sarr
Midfielders: Jorginho, N’Golo Kanté, Mateo Kovačić, Saúl Ñíguez, Ross Barkley, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Kenedy, Kai Havertz
Forwards: Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi
If the English club is successful, we will see them in the final on February 12 and perhaps become the second English Club World Cup winner in history alongside Liverpool.
