German clubs fight for the return of fans! The measures are said to be legally incomprehensible

In Germany, as in the rest of Europe, coronavirus measures are in force, which of course have an impact on attendance at sporting events. But football clubs are now going into battle, wanting more fans in the stands.

Germany is divided into 16 federal states, each of which has different coronavirus measures. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, are slowly preparing for the return of large crowds of fans.

In fact, in most of the German Länder, restrictions on coronavirus are being eased.

But the situation is different in North Rhine-Westphalia, home to seven Bundesliga clubs, or Saxony. It was in Saxony that RB Leipzig appealed fairly recently to the court there.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, three clubs, namely Borussia Dortmund, Cologne and Arminia Bielefeld, are taking the same step. They want to bring more fans back to their stadiums.

At present, only 750 spectators are allowed in the stadiums in this federal state. Paradoxically, the measures there allow larger attendances in indoor concert halls. The Bundesliga clubs therefore want to justify their position on the basis of the legal incomprehensibility of the measures.

According to all three of them, the principles of proportionality and equal treatment are being violated. However, they can ask the courts to explain why the measures are set up in this way.
