Tottenham without a coach again! Mourinho’s successor sacked after just 10 league rounds

The 0:3 defeat to struggling Manchester United was the last one Nuno Espirito Santo experienced on the Tottenham bench. Two days after it, his contract was terminated by Spurs management.

The home game against the Red Devils was not a good performance for Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges. A 0:3 loss, no shots on target, a dull performance. Eighth place in the table is certainly not something Spurs want to boast about after more than a quarter of the competition.

It was no surprise when speculation began in the football circles about Nuno Espirito Santo’s possible departure as Tottenham head coach. The man who had successfully led Wolverhampton in previous seasons was set to replace Jose Mourinho in London and return the club to contention for the top flight. That failed to happen, and so after four months in the job, the end came swiftly on Monday morning.

The club’s official statement reads, rather succinctly, ” The club announces that it is ending its collaboration with the coaching team of Santo, Cathro, Barbosa and Dias.”

“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We would like to thank him for his services and wish him all the best for the future,” he adds on his website at least a “mandatory” addendum.

Antonio Conte, who is currently without a contract, could be the successor to Santo. This information is also reported by Fabrizio Romano, who is considered a reliable source in top football circles.

In his article he mentions Conte as the number 1 candidate for the prestigious vacant post of Tottenham head coach, adding that the club’s sporting director Paratici will try to find common ground with the Italian as soon as possible.

We’ll see if he can do that.
