Good news for Sparta. UEFA has stopped the proceedings against the team from Letna, which were conducted in connection with the Europa League match against Rangers.
The UEFA investigator found no signs of racism or any discrimination by the children cheering during the match.
In Scotland, the mere booing of Glen Kamara drew a very strong reaction. Leading Czech politicians, including Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek, even commented on the situation.
“There is insufficient evidence of racism or discriminatory behaviour to justify the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against AC Sparta Praha,” reads a statement on the UEFA website.
” The verdict confirms what our club has been sure of since the match itself. The behaviour of the children’s audience at Letná was clearly not racist. We are sorry that this odour was unfairly created around the match.”
In Scotland, however, the decision did not exactly elicit a positive response. At least The Scottish Sun expressed its concern about the verdict quite noticeably in the headline: “Shocking decision! Sparta will not be punished despite boos for Glen Kamara.”
