Cristiano Ronaldo? A world-class legend, but in the last year there are more and more voices from Italy that he is holding Juventus back. Now the former president of the Turin outfit has spoken out.
There has been talk about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future for some time now. It was unknown whether he would actually start the new season in a Juventus jersey, but for now he is still in the team. However, he only started his first game on the substitutes’ bench.
Many personalities from the Italian football environment claim that Juventus should get rid of the Portuguese legend. Now Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, the former president of the Turin club, has joined the list.
“I am always honest. So I have to say that signing Ronaldo was a mistake. No one will ever return that investment to the club. He is agreat player, but the sooner he leaves, the better for him and for Juventus,” Gigli is clear.
Although Gigli says he hopes that if Ronaldo stays, coach Massimiliano Allegri can find a way to balance Ronaldo’s contribution while not limiting the offensive potential of the entire squad.
“Ronaldo is hampering Juventus’ attacking potential. Without him, the attacking line could do fantastic things in a collective concept,” said the Juventus president from 2006 to 2009.
There has been a lot of talk about PSG’s interest in Ronaldo, but there has also been speculation that the Bianconeri might only want to let the Portuguese star go to Manchester City in exchange for Gabriel Jesus.
So it will be interesting to see how the whole situation develops.
