Goal of the year? The Portuguese in a Wolves jersey flashed a bomb from a volley into the Chelsea net! Watch how he downed the Blues
Wolves have an interesting and quality squad at their disposal, yet this season they are struggling for first league affiliation. On Saturday afternoon, they could leapfrog a floundering Chelsea, who were also newly managed by Frank Lampard. And at least Matheus Nunes really shone. He may well have provided the goal of the year.

Chelsea did sack Graham Potter and brought back Frank Lampard as a temporary replacement. But the club legend didn’t give his team the right impetus in his first game on the Blues bench.
In fact, the London side visited Wolverhampton’s Molineux Stadium looking to make amends after a run of three league games without a win. Moreover, Wolves need to pick up points to stay in the Premier League.
Although Chelsea were struggling, it was known that Wolves would not have it easy. And that was confirmed. The game was evenly matched. Although the ball possession stats belonged to the Blues, it was considerably more even on shooting attempts and expected goals.
However, the Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes, whom Wolves brought from Sporting Lisbon for 45 million euros in the summer, gave a great performance in the match. The 24-year-old footballer decided the match with a great bomb from a volley.
He got to the ball in the 30th minute of the match, when he got inside the opponents’ sixteen and didn’t hesitate too much what to do with it. He didn’t waste any time in processing it either. He sent Wolves into a 1:0 lead, which he and his teammates held on to.
It is worth mentioning that it was the first ever Premier League goal for Nunes and the first ever goal for Wolves. He also had one assist. And that his very first goal would have been a year-end nominee for the top scorer? It can’t be ruled out.
However, Nunes’ strike will definitely aspire for the goal of the month award.
