The 28th round of the English Premier League offered great drama. Southampton against Tottenham took a point in their favour at the end when they converted a penalty to make the final score 3:3.
Tottenham is not experiencing an ideal season this season. It presents itself with unattractive football, moreover, the results are not very good either. In addition, the club was knocked out of the Champions League during the last week when they drew with AC Milan in a double-header.
This weekend they definitely wanted to fix their taste when they came to the last Southampton’s ground. But that didn’t quite happen, as Spurs missed the chance to at least briefly break into third place ahead of Manchester United.
The start of the game was marked by forced changes, with Southampton having both stoppers injured, while the Tottenham side had Ben Davies out and Richarlison even leaving the pitch in tears.
After that, the goal bag was ripped open. The goal shootout started with winter signing Pedro Porro still in the setup. Just after the break, the home side levelled the score with a goal from Che Adams, who was superbly found by former Arsenal player Theo Walcott.
Tottenham went on a tear after a header from Kane and a beautiful finish from Croatian Ivan Perisic. But Saints didn’t let up on the run and were still Tottenham’s equal opponent. In the 77th minute, Walcott made it 2-3.
In a hectic ending, Southampton moved into the opponent’s half. Subsequently, after a corner kick, the ball bounced into the penalty area where Senegalese Pape Sarr fouled senselessly. The subsequent penalty was confirmed by the VAR system. So the drama was taken care of.
Captain James Ward-Prowse, in typical fashion, took the penalty kick and sent it uncompromisingly behind goalkeeper Forster. Could this moment be a decisive boost in the fight for salvation? Or, conversely, a worsening of the mood in the Tottenham camp?
