You wouldn’t expect that! Former champion Buchinger candidly admits what the problem was in his fight with the predatory Keita
After some time, former Octagon champion Ivan Buchinger admits that he didn’t train enough before his title defense with Losen Keita. This also affected his performance in the fight.
After some time, former Octagon champion Ivan Buchinger admits that he didn’t train enough before his title defense with Losen Keita. This also affected his performance in the fight.
After his success in the Octagon, he took a hard fall
Ivan Buchinger returned to his home turf after his international success, where he won titles in the Cage Warriors and M-1 organizations. In the biggest domestic MMA organization, Oktagon, he went straight into a title fight, where he won the lightweight championship belt over Ronny Paradeiser.
Later that year, he was offered a unique opportunity to win the belt in another weight class. He picked up the featherweight title in a memorable bout with Vojta Barborik and made history for the organization.
After winning the bout, he declared his desire to fight for the historic feat when he got a taste of the King of the Roller, David Kozma. However, just days before the fight with Kozma, Buchinger was injured and since then things went downhill for the Slovakian fighter.
His June defence in Frankfurt against Losen Keita did not go at all to his liking. The predatory Belgian floored him in the first round with punches that forced the cage referee to stop the fight. He then announced after the fight a serious knee injury that sidelined him for a long time and the organization recently stripped him of his featherweight belt.
Buchinger admitted what the problem was in the fight with Keita
The former champion returned to the lost defence with Keita after some time and admitted what the problem was in that fight. “I don’t need the belt back, but to tell you the truth, I wasn’t ready for it,” Buchinger told Refresher.
“I didn’t train the way I should have trained and the way I had to train,” the former champion admitted after some time. “I miscalculated things a little bit, to be honest the fighter was very good and he killed me,” he said about Keita.
“I don’t want to end my career like that, I can’t let it go,” he explains his inner struggle. “He said he wants to go to 66kg with me, so I have to fight him, but I will kill him there,” he believes in his abilities.
But he is currently struggling with multiple injuries that are hampering his career. After ligament surgery in his knee, he is treating an injured shoulder that limits his training. Time will tell if the long layoff will have an effect on the Slovakian fighter’s performance and if he will return to title fights.
