Marco Reus played his last game in a Borussia Dortmund jersey two weeks ago and his farewell was truly spectacular. But now it’s time to move on, and the experienced footballer’s next stop could be the American MLS.

Marco Reus spent the best years of his active football career at Borussia. Unfortunately for him, however, he didn’t achieve the coveted title in 12 years with his beloved club.

Bad luck has been a lot for the German footballer in his career in general. He didn’t collect as many trophies as a player of his quality would have deserved. He was plagued by health problems. After all, he was unable to enjoy gold at the 2014 World Cup due to injury.

But he always led by example, he was always loyal. Even when the world’s big clubs wanted him, he remained loyal to Borussia Dortmund. When BVB missed out on the title in the final minutes of last season, he gave up the captain’s armband. So it’s no wonder the fans gave him a fitting send-off during his last game with the team.

Now, however, Reus has another challenge ahead of him, he doesn’t have many years left in his career after all. After his time at Westphalia, he has an offer from the USA, specifically from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano or The Athletic, Reus is already in advanced negotiations with the Californian outfit.

Reus to LA Galaxy?

According to Spanish website Diario AS, Reus could earn $1.7 million a year at LA Galaxy. However, the club’s management has to solve another problem, namely “discovery rights”. What is it?

According to MLS regulations (Discovery Process), clubs can scout and sign players who are not already under contract in MLS and not subject to any other player allocation mechanism (e.g. MLS SuperDraft). In order to sign a player through the Discovery Process, a club must first place the player on its Discovery List. A club can have up to five players on its Discovery List at any given time and can remove or add players at any time.

Charlotte FC had this right for Reus. However, the Galaxy reportedly reached an agreement with their rival and LA was awarded the right to sign the experienced German footballer. Nothing else should prevent the summer transfer.
