Will Leipzig decide the Bundesliga title? Bayern defends one-point lead, Dortmund seemingly has a better lot until the last two rounds
10 titles in a row and enough? Two rounds before the end of the Bundesliga, the jury is still out. But Bayern are in a good position to claim their 11th consecutive title. Dortmund are only one point behind, but the Bavarians have everything in their hands. What are Borussia’s chances?
10 titles in a row and enough? Two rounds before the end of the Bundesliga, the jury is still out. But Bayern are in a good position to claim their 11th consecutive title. Dortmund are only one point behind, but the Bavarians have everything in their hands. What are Borussia’s chances?
Dortmund have been waiting for the title for 11 years. This year, however, it can end Bayern’s dominance, but whenever the Westphalian players had it in their own hands and got even a slight lead, they threw the sticks under their own feet.
It’s almost as if Borussia players didn’t even want the title. The Bavarian side gave them several chances with their hesitations, but Edin Terzic’s charges didn’t take them. With two rounds to go, the giant from Munich leads the league by one point.
Will Leipzig decide the title?
Bayern have the situation in their own hands, but they have a tough game this weekend. The opponent will be RB Leipzig, who still need to score points to defend their Champions League place. So it wants and needs points from Munich.
Moreover, Leipzig has the best form in the Bundesliga in the last five games, but the historical record against Bayern is clearly against them. They have won only one of their 16 competitive matches, and that was in March 2018.
Bayern have won four of their last five matches, the only one ending in a 1-1 draw. However, it was the autumn one this season. However, this is another motivation for Leipzig.
To make matters worse, Bayern have a trip to Cologne in the last round. The unpredictable opponent played out a 1-1 draw with the Bavarians in Munich this season.
In addition, Cologne has drawn twice with Leipzig this season, beating Dortmund 3:2 at home only to fall 6:1 away in the spring and the aforementioned draw with Bayern also suggests that this team cannot be written off.
Dortmund has the easier lot
Borussia have an easier draw, at least on paper. But the statistics are not so overly positive. This weekend Dortmund will head to Augsburg, who have a decent lead, but not a complete certainty of staying among the elite.
Moreover, Borussia have failed to make the last two trips to Augsburg. The last match in the Bavarian city ended 1-1, but before that Dortmund lost by two goals. Two weeks ago, Augsburg beat Union Berlin at home, they have not lost to Leipzig this season and even defeated Bayern.
Moreover, Dortmund’s away games are not going well. Out of 16 away games, they have lost six times and won only seven. Of the last four away games, Borussia have lost once and drawn four times. So nothing is clear from their point of view.
However, in the last round they will welcome Mainz at home, who have lost their last three games, are not in ideal form and have not been doing well against Dortmund for a long time. Borussia have won their last four games against each other.
