Feyenoord have had a fantastic season. They won the title for the second time this century and ex-Spartan Dávid Hancko, among others, had a big part in that. Now, however, the traditional Dutch side is worried about its coach. Arne Slot is on the radar of Totttenham.
Although the Eredivisie season is not over yet, he already knows the name of the league title holder. Feyenoord won the title early. This is the second time in this century they have won the title, the last time being in 2017.
But in Rotterdam, apart from the celebrations, there are also some concerns. For success brings with it a heavy toll in the form of star players leaving. Dávid Hancko is expected to head to one of the top five leagues, and there is also interest in other footballers.
But even more than the players, Feyenoord are worried about losing their coach. Arne Slot signed a contract at the club in 2021 and his contract is still valid until 2025. But it is not at all certain that he will keep it.
The 45-year-old strategist has done a fantastic job in Rotterdam, for which he has already been rewarded with interest from the Premier League this season. Leeds United wanted to recruit him to their ranks, but the coach himself turned down the offer.
Now, however, he has been offered an even more tempting chance. According to Dutch and British media, Tottenham want to sign him. However, according to Sky Sports, Slot is still only one of several leading candidates.
Spurs are also said to be interested in Celtic coach Ange Postecoglu, Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi or Fulham manager Marco Silva. Brentford’s Thomas Frank also has his admirers at the club.
Anyway, Feyenoord intends to respond to Tottenham’s interest. Slot could see a significant pay rise from the Rotterdam outfit. It is said to be a doubling of his current earnings, which would mean up to 4 million euros a year.
However, Slot is not only valued for winning the title. His Feyenoord play a modern and very attractive style of football, which is what would be demanded of him in London as well.
