They didn’t expect this kind of trouble in south London. Chelsea bought 600 million euros worth of reinforcements this season, breaking all records in the winter transfer window. But in the last month and a half, they’ve scored just one goal.
Owner Todd Boehly has been busy in the transfer market. And that was in the summer after his takeover, when he wanted to demonstrate his financial strength.
Wesley Fofana arrived at Stamford Bridge for 80 million euros, Marc Cucurella for 65 million euros, Raheem Sterling for 56 million euros, Kalidou Koulibaly for 38 million euros, Carney Chukwumueka for 16 million euros, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for 12 million euros, Gabriel Slonina for 9 million euros and Juventus received 3 million euros for the guest appearance of Denis Zakaria.
In total, Chelsea spent 281.99 million euros in the summer. But the Blues were not doing well in the autumn, so the American owner decided to bang the table in the winter. And buy even more.
Thus, João Félix arrived in London on loan for 11 million euros, David Datro Fofana for 12 million euros, Andrey Santos for 12.5 million euros, Malo Gusto for 30 million euros, Noni Madueke for 35 million euros, Benoit Badiashile for 38 million euros.
Then Mykhaylo Mudryk for 70 million euros (another 30 million euros in bonuses) and as the icing on the cake, Enzo Fernandez arrived on the last day of transfers for 121 million euros.
In total, Chelsea spent over 600 million euros. It absolutely shattered all records that had previously reigned. But what did it lead to? Nothing so far. Chelsea have not scored a single goal in a month and a half.
In February, only João Félix scored in five games, with a goal in the West Ham net to secure a 1-1 draw. They drew 0:0 with Fulham, lost 0:1 to Dortmund, lost 0:1 to Southampton and fell 0:2 to Tottenham.
So, if Chelsea are going to announce a goal of the month poll, they will have an easy choice. No other goal has been scored by the Blues.
The penultimate goal dates back to 15 January, when Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 1-0 after a Kai Havertz goal.
