In Spain, the names of Barcelona and Real Madrid always come up. However, Atlético Madrid is by far the most active in the summer transfer market. The big club will thus want to build on the 2020/21 season, when it became champion of the top Spanish competition. Who should help Los Colchoneros to do so?

  • Atletico Madrid is very active in the summer transfer window
  • Nearly 250 million euros spent on reinforcements
  • Among the signings are Julian Álvarez, Alexander Sorloth and Robin Le Normand

The team under the leadership of Argentine strategist Diego Simeone is undergoing a drastic rebuilding. Several stalwarts have left the team. The most talked about captain of the Spanish national team, Alvaro Morata, who recently lifted the European Champions title.

However, in addition to the elite striker, stoppers Stefan Savic and Caglar Söyüncü are leaving for Turkey. Saul Ñíguez, who made 34 starts for Madrid last season, is heading to Sevilla on loan. Dutch creative Depay’s contract has also expired.

The most expensive transfer of the summer?

However, Atletico are very actively looking for replacements for all positions. The transfer of top scorer Artem Dovbyk from Girona, who eventually chose Italian side AS, was not completed. However, the second top scorer in La Liga has already resisted Atletico’s lure. In fact, Alexander Sorloth, who scored a fabulous 23 goals and 6 assists last season, has transferred from Villareal.

Probably the biggest reinforcement, namely Julián Álvarez from Manchester City, is expected to cooperate with the Norwegian shot-stopper and is being seriously speculated. However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer of the 2022 world champion is almost 100%.

Los Colchoneros are expected to send up to €95 million in total to England for the striker, making it the most expensive transfer of this transfer window so far.

Gallagher or former Sparta player

However, the other names are certainly not without glitz either. Along with Álvarez, Conor Gallagher is also expected to arrive from England. The dedicated midfielder has so far defended the colours of Chelsea London, where he contributed to 16 goals last season. There is also speculation about Javi Geurro, a defensive midfielder who played for Valencia last season.

Robin Le Normand has been called up to reinforce the defence. The European champion has played exclusively for Real Sociedad in the Basque Country, where he scored 2 goals as a stopper last season. There is also much speculation about former Spartan David Hanck, which is definitely good news for the Prague club as he would receive a percentage of the sale.

With a patient financial policy, Madrid can thus afford reinforcements worth up to an astronomical €250 million. A new team is literally being built and European football fans are already anxiously awaiting to see what kind of game they will present not only in the Spanish top competition, but also in the new Champions League format.
