Will a greedy agent deprive Haaland of a transfer? Raiola demands astronomical salary for player, €40m reward for himself
Erling Haaland is a hot commodity. But he’s not likely to go anywhere this year. Some of that is probably due to his agent Mino Raiola. He’s got big financial demands.
Erling Haaland is a hot commodity. But he’s most likely not going anywhere this year. Some of that is probably due to his agent Mino Raiola. He’s got big financial demands.
Mino Raiola is a notorious agent, and he was uncompromisingly taken in by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. It could be said that Raiola is one of the most greedy agents in football.
This has now been confirmed by Germany’s Sport Bild. In fact, in the summer there was interest in Erling Haaland, however, the Norwegian sharpshooter will remain at Borussia Dortmund at least until the winter. Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are interested in him.
Chelsea, however, can already be crossed off the list. In fact, it acquired another attacking gem in the summer when Romelu Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge. But Haaland should have been the first choice. Raiola, however, stood in the way.
According to Transfermarkt, Haaland is now worth €130 million, but Borussia should have wanted €20 million more. That wouldn’t be such a problem for Chelsea. However, the player’s agent has gone overboard with his financial demands.
He wanted a five-year contract for Haaland, which would have guaranteed the talented striker an income of €50 million a year. But that was not all. Raiola wanted another 40 million euros for himself.
With all that, Haaland’s arrival would have cost Chelsea an astronomical 300 million euros. Raiola, meanwhile, did not even want to discount Haaland’s asking salary, let alone his own earnings.
In a year’s time, however, things will be very different. Haaland will be able to be bought out for 75 million euros, which will give a potential suitor a lot of financial relief. However, it cannot be ruled out that Raiola might want that much more for himself.
