A second draw with Manchester United sees Liverpool leave top spot for the second time this season after the derby. Jürgen Klopp’s men were clearly in control of the game in the first half, but it was the ending that was the problem.

Three games for Liverpool against Manchester United, not a single win. After a goalless league draw at Anfield and a 3:4 FA Cup exit, Liverpool led away from home but gradually lost the match in the second half.

Missing points and score

Liverpool players shot almost every three minutes, but out of 28 attempts they hit the net only seven times, without a penalty six times. It should have been decided after the first half, in which Dominik Szoboszlai in particular fired great chances.

“A terrible result. Absolutely dominant performance, but we don’t have the title in our hands anymore because we won’t make up the goal difference,” wrote Adam in a liked comment under Liverpool’s Instagram post.

And Liverpool really need to chase goal difference in the current situation. It is the one that makes the difference when the scores are level and leaders Arsenal have nine shots better. Citizens, on the other hand, are two goals worse than Liverpool.

Some Liverpool supporters calm the situation by saying that Arsenal have the significantly toughest lot. But the much bigger problem is that the Citizens are only a point behind. Pep Guardiola has long had an excellent end to seasons.

Núñez as we know him

Darwin Núñez’s unproductivity has also played a part in the result. The Uruguayan striker burned decent action in both halves, pointlessly opting for a centre instead of a shot after switching sides from the small area. But it just flew through the penalty area.

“Why does Núñez sometimes make the stupidest decisions, ” a Goyard supporter asked rhetorically. And the truth is that the Uruguayan didn’t do much against Manchester. That’s why he made a substitution before the end of the game.
