Why didn’t he meet the weight limit? I gave it everything – diet, food, dropping through the water, but it didn’t work out, admitted Sivak’s opponent Tokhtarov

Today we will see the title fight of Vaclav Sivak against Ruslan Tokhtarov under K1 rules. Tokhtarov is a full two kilograms overweight and Sivak’s team has given the Austrian fighter an ultimatum.
If today at 18:00 Tokhtarov weighs more than at yesterday’s public weigh-in, the fight will be cancelled at the last minute. So, at this point, the Chechen-born fighter continues to be very careful about his weight and has justified why he did not meet the 66 kilogram limit.
The Sivak vs. Tokhtarov duel will close out the RFA 10 tournament in Havířov and you can watch the action via PPV.
It has happened several times in the past that even world champions have had their bodies put a stop to drastic weight loss. Tokhtarov experienced something similar, and even a long stay in the sauna didn’t help.
“I had to lose 85 kilos and I didn’t wrestle at that weight for a long time. The two kilos were too much for me. I couldn’t get the water out of me anymore. I lost 200 grams in 30 minutes in the sauna.
I ended up running for 30 minutes, I didn’t sweat anything either. That was my limit. My head was spinning and I just couldn’t do it anymore,” Tokhtarov said in an RFA press release.
“I’m very sorry that I didn’t make weight. It was also my fault because I thought I could make the weight I had in the past. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. I put everything into it – diet, food, losing through water, but it didn’t work out,” explained the Austrian-Chechen fighter.
If Tokhtarov fulfills Sivak’s ultimatum and beats the Czech Bad Boy today, he will not be happy about winning the championship belt. Only the current champion Sivak is fighting hard for the title.
Assuming Tokhtarov manages to surprise and defeat Sivak, the K1 title under 66kg rules will remain vacant. We’ll see tonight if that actually happens. You can watch the whole tournament on realsport.tv.
