Whistle for the world champion! Atlético Madrid fans booed their own Rodrigo de Paula
Rodrigo de Paul is not having an easy time of it. The fans of his own club don’t like him at all and are sending him away. He did not even soften the Atlético Madrid supporters with the World Cup title, on the contrary, he made it worse for himself and was booed when he returned home.
Rodrigo de Paul is not having an easy time of it. The fans of his own club don’t like him at all and are sending him away. He did not even soften the Atlético Madrid supporters with the World Cup title, on the contrary, he made it worse for himself and was booed when he returned home.
Atlético Madrid were already 3-0 up on Real Valladolid in Saturday’s game, the match was virtually decided. When the injured Marcos Llorente said goodbye to the Civítas Metropolitano in the 56th minute, he was greeted with applause.
There was a relaxed atmosphere in the stadium, not to be ignored when the Colchoneros finally got going. But that changed the second Llorenten left the field. Rodrigo de Paul jumped in his place, which is like a red rag to a bull for Atlético Madrid fans.
Immediately, a deafening whistle blew to welcome de Paul to the pitch. What did he do to deserve it? An incident at the end of September. De Paul had played friendlies for Argentina against Honduras and Jamaica, and Atlético had a tough game against Sevilla at the weekend. But De Paul did not return, along with Molina and Correa.
the 28-year-old midfielder excused himself from the match as he reportedly had to sort out private matters in Argentina and asked for a few days off, which Atlético allowed him. A few days later, however, de Paul was seen in Miami at the Billboards Gala, where he accompanied his girlfriend and singer Tini.
Atlético fans can’t forget that instead of an important match, he made up an excuse and went to Miami with his girlfriend instead. Since then, the relationship between the two parties has broken down.
Even before the match against Elche, when Atlético welcomed the world champions, de Paul discovered that he was no favourite in the stands. He boasted the trophy together with Nahuel Molina and Ángel Correa, but only he received criticism from the stands.
After that, he was injured for a couple of games and only made his first appearance in the Copa del Rey at Levante the following week. On Saturday, he made his first appearance at the Civítas Metropolitano when he came on for the last 35 minutes and was booed off.
And fans on social media are making it clear they are serious about their dislike of de Paul. “Whistling at de Paul, oh. Best moment in 6 years at the Metropolitan,” wrote El Wandis, a fan profile with more than 36,000 followers, on Twitter.
