Aston Villa have brought in the most high-profile signings in the winter transfer window so far from English clubs, but it’s also worth keeping an eye on other new players at Premier League clubs. The following five footballers are worth your attention.

Edo Kayembe

Watford have strengthened their midfield and defensive line. Edo Kayembe arrived from Belgian side Eupen and was in the centre of the Hornets midfield in the first league game after the transfer (1-1 draw with Newcastle).

Out of the trio of Juraj Kucka, Moussa Sissoko, Kayembe, he was clearly the most creative, sending a millimetre accurate through pass to Joshua King in the second half, who failed in a great chance. Watford were looking for a similar midfielder.

Samir

In addition to Kayembe, left back Hassane Kamara and stopper Samir will also wear the yellow and black jersey. The latter was scouted by Claudio Ranieri at Udinese to plug the hole in the defence.

While Watford have been scoring a lot of goals since the start of the season, they have also been conceding a lot of them, mainly due to the poor quality of the centre of defence. None of the tried and tested pairings have worked and Samir gave a solid performance on his debut with Newcastle.

Chris Wood

Paying £30 million for a 30 year old Burnley player is risky to say the least, but the truth is that a similar type of striker can take the thorn out of Newcastle’s side and secure a save. Striker Callum Wilson is injured and Chris Wood is the ideal replacement.

His style of play will allow more space for Allan Saint-Maximin, he works well with his back to goal, which combined with the speedy wingers (Ryan Fraser, Saint-Maximin) looks to be a huge weapon.

Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian magician couldn’t be missing from this list, after all, his return to the Isles made every Premier League fan happy. Philippe Coutinho experienced his best years in a Liverpool jersey and in his first appearance he contributed to Aston Villa’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United with a goal and an assist.

Steven Gerrard is building a very interesting team, Villains can easily think about European Cups with the quality of the squad.

Lucas Digne

Rafael Benitez’s engagement on the Everton bench did not go well, one of the reasons was the sidelining of Lucas Digne. The French full-back left for Aston Villa in the winter and his very first game went well.

Digne is proven by the English league and has long been one of the Premier League’s best left-backs. The foursome of Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Digne, is well above standard.
