What’s going on with Chelsea? Only won once in the new year, not even the reinforcements helped
Chelsea is going through a huge crisis at the moment. In 2023, it has only one win to its credit. What’s going on at Stamford Bridge?
Chelsea is going through a huge crisis at the moment. In 2023, it has only one win to its credit. What’s going on at Stamford Bridge?
Disastrous form
It says it all that Chelsea are currently in tenth place in the table. The chances of winning European cups are minimal. Nobody at Stamford Bridge is counting on the team playing in the Champions League next season.
Probably everyone expected that the results would improve rapidly after the arrival of several star reinforcements. The opposite is true. The Blues have won only 1 game out of 10 this year.
Rebuilding the team mid-season
Chelsea are currently going through a huge rebuilding process. The question is whether it is the ideal time for it in the middle of the season, where all the teams are already lined up. New owner Todd Boehly has invested just over half a billion Euros in the club in reinforcements alone.
For example, in the last game against Southampton, five players who arrived in the winter transfer window started in the starting line-up. It is usual for the team to be strengthened by 1, maximum 2 players in this period. The American owners, however, showed great impatience and decided to practically rebuild the team in the middle of the season.
However, it can’t be said that the players who have come to Chelsea are not of good quality. On the contrary. Players like Enzo Fernandez and Benoit Badiashile have already shown their qualities. But the team lacks the cohesion and system that Chelsea showed under Thomas Tuchel
Graham Potter
Is he the right man for Chelsea? That’s probably the question every Chelsea fan is asking themselves at the moment. Graham Potter displayed modern football in his previous engagement at Brighton and managed to play in the top tiers of the table with a team on a relatively small budget.
His story at Chelsea, however, has unfolded very differently so far. After a decent introduction to the engagement, things have taken a turn for the worse. Even after half a year, he hasn’t been able to impose his style of play on the team, his commitment is lacking, and his players are having trouble scoring goals.
The question now is whether Potter can still turn his engagement in London around, but it looks more like another sacking.
