Liverpool coach Jürgenn Klopp and his colleague on the Watford bench feel wronged after this weekend’s games. What situations are they unhappy with?

German coach Jürgenn Klopp had to accept his side’s defeat at West Ham with a heavy heart. He makes no secret of the fact that the Reds did not give a good enough performance, but he does not accept the two decisions of the referee.

Klopp believes that just before the first goal was scored in the small area, goalkeeper Alisson was attacked so much by West Ham players that he could not take full action and as a consequence conceded in the sixth minute of the encounter.

“It was a foul on the goalkeeper. What could he have done at that moment? That’s exactly the situation when we ask for goalkeeper protection in the penalty area. His arm was blocked, he couldn’t knock the ball away,” the German fumed.

The second situation, which he saw completely differently than the referee, is the intervention of Aaron Cresswell on Liverpool captain Henderson in the ninth minute of the match. It was a defensive tackle in which the West Ham back went into the tackle awkwardly. Although he played the ball, after which he still partially slipped, he did not avoid colliding with the legs of the opposing player.

Cresswell received neither a yellow nor a red card for the tackle, which Klopp demanded from the referee. It has to be said that in this particular case the home side could have been glad that there was no sending off. Not that the brutality of the tackle was much like those we sometimes see in England, but red cards have been issued for milder tackles.

Watford’s Italian coach Claudio Ranieri, for a change, is angry about the behaviour of Arsenal’s players in the crucial, 56th minute goal situation. He pointed out that not only did the Arsenal players not give the ball back to Watford after they had tripped it up when an opposing player was injured, but they also fouled Ismail Sarr in the action.

The problematic passage of play was explained by Ranieri to Arsenal coach Arteta after the final whistle, though of course it was no longer of any use to him at the time.

Expert Jamie Redknapp, who was in the studio during the match, sympathised with Ranieri, telling Sky Sports

Whether or not both coaches’ complaints were justified, it will not bring back points for their respective teams. Liverpool fell to West Ham 2: 3, Watford left Arsenal’s ground with a 0: 1 defeat.
