Was everything arranged? Dana White reacts to suspicious changes ahead of UFC 279
The pre-UFC 279 press conference has been cancelled. The reason was a mass brawl backstage, which should have been provoked by Khamzat Chimaev. Both his coach and UFC promoter Dana White gave more specifics on what happened.
Due to a mass brawl backstage, the UFC 279 press conference has been cancelled. The fight was provoked by Khamzat Chimaev, who didn’t weigh in afterwards by almost 4 kilos! Thus, the Swedish fighter ended up taking on Kevin Holland and the question is whether everything was planned and the fight was not just a promo.
Quite strange events have happened in the last few days. A mass brawl broke out before the press conference of the UFC 279 tournament, which was provoked by Khamzat Chimaev, who took on Kevin Holland.
The next day he didn’t weigh in by almost 4 pounds, which pissed off the combat sports public as the Swedish fighter wasn’t making a big deal out of it. So in the end, it was Holland he took on.
Nate Diaz faced Tony Ferguson, whom he knocked out in the fourth round. It all turned out well, too well. Kind of suspicious.
Everything seems to have been planned in advance, as Chimaev promoted his fight with Holland to number one. But promoter Dana White clearly denies it.
“I’m hearing the opinions of more and more people that we planned all these changes. I can honestly tell you that anyone who seriously thinks that is a complete lunatic! How could we plan something like this? We didn’t count on any of this happening.
We didn’t know Khamzat was gonna fight Kevin backstage. That Khamzat wouldn’t make weight, we were informed by his doctor the night before the weigh-in.
That Tony would fight Nate, that was settled the day before the fight. Our sport is full of craziness, but we certainly didn’t pull any stunts on anyone,” he told reporters.
