Vlahovic can break Ronaldo’s record! Fiorentina offered him the most expensive contract in their history, he refused
Dusan Vlahovic is proving this season that the last one was not a fluke. What’s more, it seems that he could surpass the last one by a steamer. He is even close to breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
Dusan Vlahovic is proving this season that the last one was not a fluke. What’s more, it seems that he could surpass the last one by a steamer. He is even close to breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
Still only 21 years old, the Serbian striker is already in his fourth season in Serie A. In the first one he played only a few minutes, in the second he was already getting a bit more space, but the third one was the turning point, in which he ranked among the best strikers in the competition.
And that it was not a coincidence, he proves it in the current season. While last season he scored 21 goals in the top Italian competition, he now has 16 goals after 18 rounds. With a solid performance, he can surpass his last season.
Dusan Vlahovic is even in such form that he has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record. He has scored 33 goals in Serie A this calendar year. Only the Portuguese has done that since 1960.
But the Serbian can still surpass it. On Wednesday, Fiorentina play their last game of the year at Verona. Vlahovic has made it through the last six games in a row, scoring eight goals.
It’s not surprising that the whole of Europe will soon be looking for him, with his value currently estimated at €50 million. The Florentine team wants to keep him at all costs, but it won’t be easy. It seems impossible.
Vlahovic has a contract at Fiorentina until 2023. The club tried to extend it, but in vain. “Dusan and his agent brushed our offer of a new contract off the table. We offered him the highest salary in the club’s history,” Viola boss Joe Barone was quoted as saying.
According to him, Fiorentina are unlikely to improve their offer. Therefore, a sale will have to be dealt no later than the summer, which will be a tough blow. The Serbian marksman is one of the main reasons why the club is experiencing its best season in five years.
