He is one of the architects of the league title. Martin Vitík became one of the indispensable members of Sparta’s starting line-up in the spring, and continued his excellent performances in the summer in the Lvičat jersey. And now it seems that his career should move on.
He spent a large part of the autumn on the bench or in the stands. Martin Vitík got his chance in October, when Sparta beat Zbrojovka Brno 4: 0. And even though he failed in the match at Slavia, he did not drop out of the lineup.
The 20-year-old stopper Vitík gave a quality performance in the spring and was one of the main contributors to the championship trophy, which Sparta won after nine long seasons.
After a successful season, he travelled to Euro U21 and was clearly the best player of his team. He played well against England, well against Germany. Unfortunately, he was injured against Israel and the Czechs finished the tournament after the defeat.
Now he is back and preparing with Sparta for the new season, in which Brian Priske’s team will fight for the Champions League group stage. But will it be the same with Vitik?
There is of course interest in him, there has been talk of several clubs and they are supposed to be from the Italian top flight. Now the speculation is clearer, according to SportItalia journalist Ruda Galetti, he has been scouted by Ajax.
The latter has lost twenty-two-year-old Jurrien Timber, who also plays at right-back. Timber is heading to Arsenal, where he should have no problem getting into the starting line-up.
But back to Vitik. According to Galetti, negotiations are ongoing between the clubs, but that certainly doesn’t mean a transfer is anywhere near. Vitik should still start in today’s game against Cukaricka, plus Sparta doesn’t need to get rid of him.
It made two expensive transfers last season in the form of David Hancock and Adam Hložek, so the financial side is not causing it any problems. It has a similar approach with Ladislav Krejci, where it would be willing to make a transfer the moment the player himself said he wanted to leave.
