VIDEO: Unbelievable! Both goalkeepers sent off, Giroud the hero between the three posts
86 minutes of boredom with no goals, then four minutes plus a quarter of an hour of setup that gave all the spectators their ticket value back. A tense ending offered a goal, two reds for the goalkeeper and Olivier Giroud’s wandering into the box.

Genoa went into the game with the clear objective of defending a goalless draw for as long as possible. And they did it well. Although the visitors got to double figures in goals, it was almost still goalless as the end approached.
In the 87th minute, however, Christian Pulisic was at his best in the whitewash and put the Genoa goalkeeper through. VAR was still examining the American’s possible hand, but the shot was ultimately a regulation one.
But that was just the beginning. In the fifth minute of the eight-minute setup, Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan brought down one of the strikers with his knee. The head referee drew the red card after watching the replay.
AC were out of possession, so someone from the field had to wear the goalkeeper’s jersey. Olivier Giroud, the most experienced, took the responsibility. The ensuing shot from a direct kick ended up on the crossbar thanks to a run in the wall.
Genoa continued to try to equalise, with their Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez fouling in the 113th minute while trying to win the ball. As he had already received one yellow card from the previous game, he too had to take an early shower.
Giroud had the last word between the three posts. He ran out against the home team’s foray into the penalty area, knocked the ball away and then hid it in his gloves. Although he didn’t score the winning goal, he is the man of the match.
Although he will be remembered for his successes with the French national team, Chelsea or the memorable scorpion against Crystal Palace, the snatched Serie A victory is also of great value.
