In the 26th round of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund played for the top spot. However, Borussia goalkeeper Gregor Kobel dashed his team’s hopes for a good result early in the match by scoring a cheap own goal.
Borussia Dortmund were leading the league thanks to their steady results and frequent losses to Bayern Munich, but they needed to confirm this form in the 26th round.
The Yellow and Black travelled to Bavaria to take on Bayern Munich on Saturday evening. It was a close game, but a huge goalkeeping blunder decided the game.
In the 13th minute, twenty-five-year-old Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel fumbled Dayot Upamecan’s kicked ball and the ball rolled into an empty net.
He sent his team’s psyche completely to the ground with this blunder and Borussia couldn’t recover. They scored twice more before the end of the first half.
Five minutes after the first goal, Thomas Müller added a second, scoring after a corner kick, with a header from defender Matthijs de Ligt.
And five minutes later it was 3-0 to Bayern, with Müller scoring again, this time from a shot by teammate Leroy Sané.
A win would have sent Bayern back to the top of the league with a two-point lead over second-placed Borussia. However, there are still eight matches left in the league.
