Antonio Conte opted for a different tactic for Saturday’s game against Leicester, leaving only Son Heung-min on the bench. However, the Korean striker did see the pitch during the game and things happened! His hat-trick sealed the victory for Tottenham, who equalised to Manchester City’s lead.
Son is not having a great season, having only managed to make his mark on the stats once before Saturday night, namely in the opening league game against Southampton, where he notched an assist. Otherwise, however, he had been ineffective.
Even the ratings were certainly not what we have become accustomed to from him in past seasons. Against Leicester, however, he sparked his engines and shot Brendan Rodgers’ team into an even deeper crisis with a hat-trick.
Of particular note are his first two goals. First, he gave his teammates some peace of mind when a beautiful shot increased Spurs’ lead to 4:2.
About 10 minutes later, he swapped his right foot for his left and scored his second goal of the league season with another beautiful shot.
Very soon Son will celebrate his 100th goal in the Premier League. He has scored 96 in 239 games so far. The Korean striker will have another chance to score in the next league game against Arsenal.
Tottenham thus confirms the pre-season predictions that he, along with Liverpool, who have a slower start, should be the main competitors of the Citizens in the fight for the title.
Leicester, on the other hand, is at the tail of the table after 7 rounds with one point and with a daunting score of 10::22.
In the next round, the Foxes currently face the second worst team in the Premier League, which they should definitely be able to handle. Nottingham have won just 4 points so far and have the third worst defence in the league, 6 goals scored then also says a lot.
