Cristiano Ronaldo keeps scoring goals even at 38 years old. Most recently, he secured his Al-Nasser side’s promotion from the Arab Cup just before the end of the match with Zamalek.
Al-Nassr has played against Celta Vigo, Benfica Lisbon, PSG and Inter. He lost his first two matches, but drew with both Paris and Milan.
After that, it was the turn of the Arab Club Champions Cup. There were four teams in the classic group, with the top two advancing. Al-Nassr first drew 0-0 with Al Shabab, with Ronaldo only coming on for the last 30 minutes.
They then faced Tunisia’s Monastir, where the Portuguese scored the winning goal in a 4: 1 result. But in the last match against Egypt’s Zamalek, it was a direct challenge for progression.
Al-Nassr could only manage a draw, but in the 53rd minute Zizo opened the scoring for the home side from a penalty. By that time, Sadio Mané, a fresh signing for the visitors, was on the pitch for the second half.
Al-Nassr couldn’t make a breakthrough for a long time and it looked like they would be out of the group. But in the 87th minute, Konan got to the ball on the left side, sent a fluffy centre into the whitewash, which Ronaldo pounced on and headed into the net.
In the final minutes, the Portuguese thus ensured his team’s progress to the quarter-finals of the Arab Club Champions Cup. In it, Al-Nassr will play the Moroccan team Raja Casablanca, which is renowned for its great fans.
Casablanca won their group with full points, but Sadio Mané, who arrived just days before the match against Zamalek, could already start in the Al-Nassr jersey from the first minute.
