Francis Ngannou did not repeat his promising performance from the previous fight with Tyson Fury. The long-awaited boxing duel was clearly dominated by Anthony Joshua, who dealt a crushing knockout to the Cameroonian predator.
The miracle did not happen this time and another boxer set a mirror to the former UFC heavyweight king. Did he send him back to MMA? He won’t look between the sixteen ropes for a while, doctors will surely give him a medical stoppage for a few weeks.
When Francis Ngannou announced his retirement from the UFC, one of the reasons he gave was a desire to experience boxing matches. Because of his popularity in mixed martial arts, he had many attractive opponents coming forward.
He was eventually welcomed into the ring by the king of heavyweight, undefeated legend Tyson Fury. Although a clear run was expected and probably few except the Cameroonian himself expected a miracle, Ngannou put on a solid performance and even sent the Gipsy King to the floor.
Fury may have won on points, but the course of their fight was absolutely shocking. Not so surprisingly, when the fight with another legendary boxer was announced, the Cameroonian Predator did convince some fans that he could make a name for himself in this discipline.
However, Anthony Joshua, who after two losses to Oleksandr Usyk has started his career in the right direction again, seems to have set a mirror to the Cameroonian. Indeed, on the night of Friday to Saturday, the world saw an absolutely unequivocal course in Riyadh ending in a really tough way for the MMA fighter.
Anthony Joshua delivered an exhibition KO, Ngannou fell after two rounds
After just two minutes, Ngannou went on his ass as he ate a crushing straight right. And he definitely had his work cut out for him getting back to his feet. He still managed to breathe through a difficult situation in the first round, but by the second round, it was a decisive stoppage.
With a minute left in the second round, Joshua landed a hard right hook that put Ngannou back on the floor. The visibly shaken Cameroonian expressed his desire to continue the fight, but the next punch was fatal for him. Joshua took advantage of his opponent’s concussion and sent him into dreamland with one hook.
Ngannou needed several minutes and a good dose of oxygen to regain consciousness. In the end, however, all was well, the two shook hands and Joshua paid his respects to his opponent. Of course, he didn’t forget to take a dig at Tyson Fury, who was present at the fight.
But the latter is going to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the unified king of heavyweight boxing. You can watch the full fight at this link.
