VIDEO: Kylian Mbappé scores a hat-trick to give PSG the win over Montpellier

Kylian Mbappé helped his current club to a valuable 6-2 win at Montepellier. The French striker and PSG captain even scored a hat-trick in the match. He is confirming that he still plays a key role in the team. Before the national break, he put in a great performance.

Mbappé led his team into the match of the 26th round of Ligue 1 as captain. As early as the 14th minute, he found Vitinho in the middle of the pitch a few yards in front of the penalty area, the Portuguese made a clearance and opened the scoring with a cross to the left post of the home goalkeeper’s net.

Eight minutes later, the Parisians celebrated for the second time. After a quick counter-attack, Mbappé scored for the first time. However, the home side did not give up and equalised by half-time. First Nordin scored after a mistake by the visiting defence. Then Savanier equalised in injury time from a penalty after a foul by Donnarumma. The game was then tied.

The visitors again came out better in the second half and in the 50th minute Mbappé scored for the second time in the match. The Frenchman took a shot from the edge of the box and sent the ball into the net with a shot against the crossbar. Three minutes later, Lee Kang-In made it even more joyful, increasing the score to 4:2. The Korean made his mark again with a perfect shot from outside the box.

In the 63rd minute, Vitinha surprised the home defence with a quick cross and Mbappé knew his way around in the face of the home goalkeeper. Defender Mendes closed the scoring with a minute left in regulation time. PSG didn’t give their opponents too many chances and went on to take another 3 points.

Mbappé in the current season

Only in Ligue 1, the French striker is recording great numbers, in 24 matches he has accumulated 24 goals and 5 assists. Mbappé only needs to play half a half to make his mark. Thanks to him, PSG have a comfortable 12-point lead at the top of the table.

In the Champions League, the French big club managed to knock out Real Sociedad of Spain. Mbappé scored 3 goals out of 4 to help them reach the quarter-finals. Next up for PSG is Barcelona, an opponent that Mbappé is likely to face very often from next season onwards. In the Champions League, the Frenchman scored 6 goals in 8 matches.

If we add to the statistics from the aforementioned competitions the other French Cups, we find that Mbappé has scored 38 goals and 8 assists in 37 games this season. Should the Parisian club go on to success in the Champions League, the first Ballon d’Or of his career would be in play for Mbappé.
