Sometimes all it takes is one good kick and you’re the talk of the world. This is also the case of the young Spanish midfielder who, after only seven minutes on the pitch, decided his team’s victory with a lucky, but successful goal.
The 21st round of the Spanish La Liga took place at the weekend. Under the deluge of news about Real Madrid’s controversial win over Almeria, which was reaching for victory at the famous Santiago Bernabéu stadium until the final whistle, another mid-table battle was somewhat lost.
In it, Osasuna welcomed Getafe to their ground and it was a five-goal show full of beautiful football moments. Few probably expected the home fans to worry about their team’s victory until the final minutes of the game.
Especially when the home striker Raul Garcia opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the match. He took advantage of a precise centre from Ibanez and with a delicate touch sent the ball between the legs of the visiting goalkeeper.
After half an hour of play, the home side increased their lead to two goals. And it was a complete and utter travesty. the 21-year-old midfielder Iker Muñoz got to a deflected ball on the edge of the box and fired it straight into the net. A wonderful moment.
Getafe equalised in the second half, but Areso may have scored the goal of the season
The home side went into the cabins happier. However, a strong five minutes from the visiting Getafe team in the second half made the game more dramatic. Former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral reduced the gap to a single goal. Only four minutes later, Nemanja Maksimovic equalised from a corner kick.
In the 73rd minute, young midfielder Jesús Areso, who returned from a pre-season loan spell at second division side Burgos, took the field. And it was more than a good substitution.
After only seven minutes on the pitch, Areso probably got to the centre from a corner. But he hit the ball so perfectly that it fell into the net of the visiting goalkeeper, who reached for it in vain. Coincidence? Maybe. But it’s definitely a candidate for goal of the season.
