Dortmund celebrate their progress to the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal, the German Cup. The Westphalian club has been running like clockwork in the new year, winning five competitive matches in a row.
Thanks to this streak, it has even returned to the title fight, as the German league leaders, Bayern Munich, have already drawn three times. They currently lead the league by one point ahead of Union Berlin and three points ahead of Dortmund.
Dortmund would like to repeat their cup victory from the 2020/2021 season. Despite still being on the edge of the relegation places, they have scored eleven goals in their last five competitive games.
Goal from the middle of the park
As expected, Dortmund’s players were more active in the first half, which resulted in a well-deserved goal scored by midfielder Emre Can shortly before going into the cabins.
The home side Bochum entered the second half more actively and even managed to equalise. However, their joy lasted only a few minutes. It was robbed by Marco Reus, who tapped the ball into the empty net.
Borussia Dortmund are now among the top eight teams in this season’s competition. They join Bayern Munich, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Leipzig, Union Berlin and Stuttgart.
The draw for the quarter-finals, which will take place in early April, will be decided by lot.
The Westphalian club’s players will be aiming for their sixth DFB Pokal victory. Bayern Munich is the record holder in this competition, having won the title on 20 occasions.
