Justin Gaethje has declared one last assault on the UFC lightweight title
Next weekend, we’ll see another numbered event at UFC 286. In the main event of the evening, combat sports fans will see a welterweight title fight, with champion Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman squaring off in a trilogy.
But the main preliminary bout of the gala will feature one of the most electrifying fighters in the entire organization. Justin Gaethje is going to fight again, so it’s clear that we’re going to see at least one bout that definitely won’t be tactical.
Gaethje will take on Azerbaijani phantom Rafael Fiziev, who is also considered a nasty puncher. The division’s number six has been knocking out one opponent after another, pulling off six straight wins in the world’s largest MMA organization. As such, he will surely be looking to climb towards the top of the weight class on his opponent.
Gaethje is the one who has declared his latest assault on becoming UFC champion. He has always run out of breath before the top, but the attractiveness of this fighter knows no bounds and “The Highlight” can’t make a boring fight. Unfortunately in his title fights he has always fallen short of the champion, getting choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.
UFC lures him back to the cage with video of epic war with Chandler
The UFC knows about his qualities, of course. So ahead of his return , it posted his last win in the organization on its YouTube channel as part of a “free fight” edition. In it, he put on an absolute war with Michael Chandler that became one of the most memorable lightweight battles in UFC history.
As is the way with both fighters, from the start of their duel, they both forgot about tactics and went at it in a “give and take” style stance. The first round went from side to side and Chandler’s explosiveness paid off for his opponent.
However, the moment Chandler landed his best shots, he took a proverbial punch from a counter that stopped him from his continued pressure. From then on, it was Gaethje who controlled the fight, and what Chandler stood up to in the rest of the fight went down in UFC history.
Will we see another crazy Justin Gaethje fight? Or will the fearsome brawler lay down the gloves in the middle of the octagon, as he has already indirectly announced in a possible future loss? We’ll find out next weekend at the tournament, which takes place at London’s O2 Arena.
