Slovácko won 2-1 against Nice in the fourth round of the group stage of the Conference Europa League, with defenders Michal Tomič and Petr Reinberk scoring in the second half. Take another look at the two goals from Slovácko that guaranteed the team from Uherské Hradiště an important victory.
Slovácko did not start the match with French club OGC Nice well at all. Almost throughout the first half, Martin Svedik’s charges had to defend against dangerous attacks from the home team, one of which ended behind the back of goalkeeper Filip Nguyen.
Sofiane Diop opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the match and it seemed that Nice would go on to a clear victory given the first 45 minutes.
Fortunately for Slovácko and probably for all fans of Czech football, however, the picture of the game changed in the second half. The visitors started to be much more active, getting into scoring opportunities, for which they were eventually rewarded.
The equaliser came after a beautiful shot by Slovakian defender Tomic, the decisive moment came in the 85th minute when the referee awarded a red card to Jean-Clair Todib, forcing him to head to the showers early.
The team from Uherské Hradiště had the advantage of a direct kick played by Reinberk. The Slovácko defender sent his shot along the ground to the left post, which Kasper Schmeichel failed to react to – 1::2!
You can see both Slovácko goals in the video below.
This is undoubtedly a very important victory for Slovácko, even though they are still in last place in Group D. Partizan leads the group with eight points, while Nice is second with five points.
Third place currently belongs to Cologne. However, the German team has the same number of points as fourth-placed Slovácko, i.e. four. The team from Uherské Hradiště still has a realistic chance to advance to the next stage of the competition.
