The opening matches of the European Conference League semi-finals are over and the winners will meet in Eden. Basel, Switzerland, whose fans turned out in large numbers in Florence, are well on their way to advancing!
The opening match of the European Conference League semi-final between Fiorentina and Basel ended with the visitors winning 1:2. The home side led for a long time, but scored in the 71st minute and then in the third.
The Swiss side are now much closer to promotion, as they only need to stay undefeated at home. However, Basel fans tried to create a home atmosphere in Florence.
Around 3,000 of them arrived in Italy and the march they took to the stadium looked truly majestic. People who were on the streets at the time filmed it and everything seems to have gone off without a hitch.
As you can see, marches abroad are not significantly restricted by the police, who in the Czech Republic always surround the entire group with riot police, and the fans are recorded the entire time.
Basel supporters then showed their qualities in the stadium. They made their voices heard in the large open stand, even setting off fireworks and smoke bombs in the club colours.
The return leg is in Switzerland in a week’s time. Czech national team midfielder Antonín Barák came on for the home team in the final minutes.
In the second match, West Ham beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 with Tomas Soucek in the starting line-up. The final in Eden will then be played on 7 June.
