Inter Milan are not exactly shining twice this season. In Serie A, it is in fourth position, with a seemingly abysmal 10 points behind first-placed Napoli after seventeen rounds. Last time they lost to Monza, they drew 2-2.
The Nerazzurri were looking to repair their reputation and taste in the Coppa Italia eighth round, where they faced second-placed Parma. The latter are in sixth place in Serie B and are 9 points behind the first two promotion places and 3 points behind the semi-final play-off places.
Parma, however, have been perfect in the cup so far. First, a surprising 2-0 away win over Salernitana, followed by a 1-0 win over Bari and a difficult game against Inter Milan at the San Siro.
Of course, the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, the soon to be 45-year-old goalkeeper, was not missing from the line-up. However, he was mostly out of a job, at least in the first half.
But he was able to rejoice in a great goal by his teammate. In the 38th minute, Stanku Juric fired a shot from outside the box that cleared the right corner of Andre Onana’s goal.
Juric was not in the starting line-up. He came on in the 26th minute after Dennis Man was injured.
It was only the 17th career competitive goal for the Croatian midfielder at the age of 26. But it was undoubtedly the most valuable. He transferred to Parma in the summer of 2021 from Hajduk Split.
But it wasn’t enough for promotion. Inter went into extra time thanks to a goal from Lautaro Martinez, with Francesco Acerbi scoring the winner.
