Borussia Dortmund are famous for the atmosphere in their stadium. In particular, its yellow wall is now absolutely legendary. And now the full capacity of the entire sanctuary can also be used in the Champions League. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly got his first taste of the fantastic scenery.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is still new to football and in many ways it shows. It’s no wonder he’s often the butt of jokes, mocking collages and the like. However, if there’s one thing you can’t deny him, it’s his willingness to invest.
Only time will tell how systematic, logical and useful his investments in reinforcements are. Anyway, on Wednesday, Boehly experienced something that he has no chance to experience in England, where his Chelsea side operates.
The Blues played at Borussia Dortmund. And if there’s one thing German football is famous for, it’s the atmosphere in football stadiums. Dortmund, in turn, is one of the most renowned fan scenes.
Moreover, this season there are no capacity restrictions and Borussia could use the maximum capacity of their stadium for the first time in the Champions League, i.e. over 81,000 seats. Apart from the dreaded yellow wall, there was thus a perfect backdrop in all stands.
Even Boehly was taken aback by the excellent atmosphere before kick-off. So he took his mobile phone out of his pocket and started filming. And no wonder. Borussia fans are unique.
Naturally, jokes started on social media about Boehly realising at that moment that he had bought a club in the wrong country or that he was now going to buy out the whole of Dortmund and demand the same atmosphere from Chelsea fans.
However, the yellow wall still commands respect in the Bundesliga. You can tell in games if the team in question is playing against it or with it at their back. Anyway, Chelsea were not enough for Dortmund and lost by a single goal. So they have a lot to make up for in the rematch.
