Biographical films, stories based on real events and overall mapped life journeys are always popular. And Bayern Munich is aware of exactly that, having launched a global project called FC Bayern World Squad in cooperation with Volkswagen a year ago.
As part of the project, talented under-19 footballers from all over the world can come closer to fulfilling their dream of signing a professional contract.
Players who were born in 2004 and 2005 and would like to take part in the project must send the club a video application form, which will be 90 seconds long. The players are asked to showcase their skills.
Last year, 654 players from 64 countries around the world submitted an application.
The selection process will be handled by former Bayern captain and world champion Klaus Augenthaler and Bayern youth coach Christopher Loch. Among other things, the two will then lead the training of the selected talents, where the emphasis will be on teamwork.
The project culminates with a match between the selected youngsters and Bayern’s nineteen. This is a unique chance to experience truly top-class football up close.
Everything is of course carefully documented, which will then result in a series charting the journey of all involved. As was the case last year, it will be free on the club’s YouTube channel.
Last year, for example, the Colombian footballer José Mulato, who is currently a guest in the Dallas youth team thanks to Bayern’s cooperation with Dallas, won a contract.
Bayern is proud of its project. According to the club, it is a great opportunity for everyone, no matter how poor their region. In addition, it is a reference to the club’s values of diversity, tolerance and cohesion.
