The year 2014 offered a spectacular event. The World Cup was hosted by Brazil, a country obsessed with football. And it was great. Even the opening ceremony was spectacular. The South American country was eager to conquer the world once again. But in the semi-final, an unforgettable event took place.
No one has won the World Cup so many times, but Brazil has been waiting for the trophy for the best national team on the planet since 2002. The Canaries hoped to break the wait for the most valuable trophy in 2014. But it didn’t happen then and it hasn’t happened yet.
However, the way in which all the Brazilians’ hopes were dashed to smithereens was not pretty at all. It was impossible not to feel sorry for them. The match, the result and some of the footage and photographs from it have gone down in history.
It was July 8, 2014, when we saw the first semifinal match of the then championship. The two heavyweights, Brazil and Germany, faced each other. However, the Canaries were weakened, with Neymar injured in the previous match and unable to play.
It was already the first big blow and a kind of hint that once again the South American country is not destined. In addition, defender and captain Thiago Silva could not start due to a card penalty. Despite this, it was expected to be an even match.
Brazil believed that the home environment could make up for the aforementioned losses, but the opposite was true. After 29 minutes it was 5:0 in Germany’s favour, with goals from Thomas Müller, Miroslav Klose, Toni Kroos twice and Sami Khedira’s fifth.
And the Germans would just finish the rest of the game? You can’t say that. André Schürrle added two more in the second half, and Oscar scored the Brazilians’ honour. Germany beat Brazil 7-1.
Basically, it was the beginning of the end. Fans were hoping that their beloveds could pull themselves together and fight for bronze. But the Netherlands were in over their heads and won 3-0. It was the Germans who went all the way to the gold medal, beating Argentina 1-0 in the final after extra time.
