Unbelievable game with the unlucky Zima in the lead role: four penalties, three turnovers and nine goals
Fc Torino extended their unbeaten streak to five games, drawing 4-4 at Atalanta on Wednesday. The match rivalled Manchester City’s day-old clash with Real Madrid, with eight goals, three turnovers and four penalties in Bergamo. Czech stopper David Zima was involved in one of them.
Torino started the game well, with Antonio Sanabria putting them ahead in the fourth minute. But the home side quickly equalised thanks to a Luis Muriel penalty and turned the tide in the 23rd minute after a fine Marten de Roon volley.
It was clear that the Turin side had nothing to play for anymore, they were relaxed and enjoying themselves. They turned the game back in their favour with three goals, with Saša Lukic scoring twice from penalties. And the four penalty kicks did not stop there.
In the 78th minute, Mario Pasalic scored the contact goal for Bergamo and four minutes later David Zima played his hand in the whitewash. The main referee didn’t notice anything at first, but after watching the replay he pointed to the white spot.
Muriel took the ball again and converted his second penalty of the match. Zima was substituted after the fourth goal, nothing else happened and the teams parted with a point for a 4-4 draw.
In spite of the game, Atalanta cannot be satisfied with the point, as they missed the chance to jump to sixth place and remain eighth, outside the places that guarantee the cups. Four rounds of Serie A remain to be played.
Turin is already finishing the season, which is giving young players like Zima a chance. The Czech international has played the last four rounds without losing a single game and has helped to secure valuable draws with AC Milan and Lazio.
