Unai Emery is one of the least appreciated coaches of our time. Can he ensure success for Aston Villa, who are starting to think about cups?

The Spanish coach sat on the bench of struggling Aston Villa last October. Since then, he has done a tremendous job at the club and is battling with his players to participate in the European Cup.

Aston Villa have struggled significantly under Steven Gerrard this season. When Unai Emery took over, the club was at the bottom of the table and close to the relegation places.

The Spanish coach was in charge of his first game against Manchester United. He celebrated his return to the Isles in style as his charges won 3-1.

Aston Villa are now in fifth position. For now, it leaves behind clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and, of course, a struggling Chelsea.

Since his arrival, he has coached twenty games in the Premier League, of which he celebrated victory thirteen times and in three cases the match ended in a draw. It is interesting to look at the number of goals scored.

Since the arrival of the new coach, Aston Villa have managed to score in all competitive matches. Twenty games in a row in the Premier League makes him the first coach to do something similar.

He managed to overtake even Carlo Ancelotti, who kept a streak of eighteen games in a row during his time at Chelsea.

An underrated coach

Emery is one of the most underrated coaches of our time, as evidenced by the path he has taken during his career. It began at Lorca Deportiva, which he immediately led to the second highest competition. It was a historic achievement for the club.

The following season, he finished fifth with sixty-nine points. That is, only five fewer than needed to participate in the playoffs. After his departure, the club was immediately relegated back to the third division.

His involvement with Almeria was also impressive. He managed to move up a league there too. In this case from second to the Spanish elite, among which they did very well. Immediately after the promotion, they won a great eighth place the following season.

His growing reputation earned him a post on the bench of Valencia, whom he led to the Europa League despite financial problems. He finished third the following three years, ensuring the club’s regular participation in the Champions League.

For the vast majority of football fans, his success at Sevilla, with whom he managed to win the Europa League three times in a row, will be remembered.

When he was already a world-class coach, he sat on the bench of the famous PSG. Here he won seven trophies, which could be described as an achievement. In Paris, however, success is defined differently. Winning domestic trophies is the bare minimum and success in the Champions League is an unattainable dream for now.

Even while coaching London Arsenal, he was on the cusp of further success in his beloved Europa League. However, they fell short to Chelsea in the final.

Who is the true king of this competition once again proved on the bench of the Spanish club. After his appointment as Villarreal coach, he broke the club record for the number of games played without a loss.

During his first season, he finished in seventh position and most importantly led the club to their first ever European final, where they beat Manchester United. Emery thus earned his fourth notch out of a total of five finals appearances.
