Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman has come up with a proposal to expand the number of names on the national team roster ahead of this year’s European Championship. For the EURO in Germany, only 20 outfield players are currently planned.
As this year’s European Championship in Germany is fast approaching, the coaches of the national teams have to count on only 20 outfield players for the upcoming World Cup.
But that doesn’t sit well with the current coach of the Dutch national team. According to the latest reports, Ronald Koeman has made a proposal to expand the size of the roster for this year’s European Championship.
It must be added, such a number of players, i.e. 20 in the field and 3 goalkeepers, was already set as a limit in previous major tournaments. However, during the coronavirus pandemic, this number was increased to 23 names. And this year the original standard is to apply again.
However, Koeman’s proposal has already been unofficially approved by several teams, including the Czech national team. This will be officially discussed at Monday’s workshop of all participants in this year’s European Championships.
“Coach Koeman was the first to request an increase in the number of nominees and he is joined by others. I have had several consultations with UEFA on the subject. We also support his idea of more players,” said Petr Fousek, president of the Football Asociation of Czech republic, quoted by Sport.cz.
Koeman and his proposal? Hašek may also support it
“The limit on the number of nominees will be one of the items on the agenda of Monday’s workshop of all Euro participants in Düsseldorf. The Czech delegation will include, among others, coach Ivan Hašek and the technical head of the national team Michal Černý,” added Fousek.
For the Czech national team coach Ivan Hašek, it would be understandably difficult to nominate only twenty names for the field at the current standard. After all, he tried out several new faces in the matches against Norway and Armenia. So there is plenty to choose from.
“It will be a very difficult decision to make the final nomination for the European Championships. It’s only 20 field players plus three goalkeepers. That’s why we have to go to the players to see them, talk to them, monitor their health. The nomination is definitely not ready,” Hašek said about the current regulations.
